EPA approves Iowa's new water-quality standards
June 1, 2009
After months of review, the EPA has
approved changes to Iowa's water-quality standards, which are intended to increase the level of protection required for many of the state's lakes, rivers, and streams. The
new standards include new designations for classes of water use, some of which will require considerably more effort to achieve than prior standards. Meeting the new standards will require work from the
municipal,
industrial, and
agricultural sectors.
