Lower reaches of Platte River escape new use restrictions
January 16, 2008
The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources has decided
not to enact new regulations on water use in the lower regions of the Platte River basin, deeming that the Lower Platte and some related tributary basins of the Missouri River
are not fully appropriated, meaning that there remains some allowance for additional consumption for uses like
irrigation. The state's Game and Parks Commission is concerned about the
welfare of several species living in the basin, including bald eagles.
