No drought assistance yet for Nebraska
August 9, 2006
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns (a former Nebraska governor) says
Nebraska will have to wait for Federal drought assistance. Johanns says it's too early to determine how the hot, dry weather will affect crops. Nebraska Senators Hagel and Nelson both want Congress to approve a $4 billion drought-assistance package. Senator Grassley says a big drought-aid bill might
discourage farmers from taking out insurance.
