Nebraska getting less rain now than during Dust Bowl
June 2, 2006
Extension researcher says Nebraska got
more precipitation in the 1930s than it's getting now. As a result, they're looking at alternative farming methods (like skip-row planting), better use of xeriscaping, and new irrigation approaches. One of the irrigation methods being considered is sub-surface irrigation, which would not only improve the efficiency of water delivery, but would also improve the delivery of fertilizer (thereby cutting down on excess nutrients in the public waters, a major concern of Midwestern water-treatment plants right now).
