Heavy Rains Cause Flash Flooding in Eastern Iowa
May 1, 2006
Rains of over two inches an hour caused
flash flooding in Davenport and the Quad Cities yesterday. The storms left part of the city without power when the rain flooded some of the neighborhood's electrical equipment. The combination of heavy rainfall and power outages can be a nasty one if a community hasn't planned ahead and installed
engine-backup lift stations that won't fail if the power goes out. Without operable pump stations, the heavy inflow of rain can cause sewer backups and other unpleasant surprises.
Portable pumps and
flood cleanup pumps can help offset the risk, too.
