The Scent of Chlorine
February 6, 2006
People living in Miami are going to notice a
strong smell of chlorine coming from the tap as the metro flushes out its water system with what's called "free chlorine." It's an effort to disinfect the entire system. Many large communities usually use what's called chloramine (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) that typically
lasts longer in water systems at lower doses due to higher stability, but a "free chlorine" flushing can help keep systems in good shape.
