Gas prices are nothing compared to bottled water
May 16, 2008
Gas prices have gotten a lot of attention due to their rapid increase over the last 18 months. But even at $4 per gallon, gasoline is a lot cheaper than bottled water. At 128 fluid ounces to the gallon, a
$35 pack of 24 bottles of spring water (11.2 ounces each) costs $16.67 per gallon. Bottled water is also getting
bad press from the environmentalist movement, which is hostile to the heavy use of plastic and fuel (for transportation) in the bottled-water industry.
Municipal drinking water remains a safe and inexpensive source for most Americans, though we will have to spend at least a little more in most places to bring the water infrastructure up to its rightful condition.
