Tighter water-pollution control laws under Senate review
April 14, 2008
The Senate
conducted hearings on April 9th on S 1870, known as the Clean Water Restoration Act. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chair Barbara Boxer
says Supreme Court decisions have made tighter regulations necessary, while the ranking Republican, James Inhofe,
said the bill unconstitutionally expands Federal regulations. The bill is probably better-known in its House version, as
HR 2421. If passed, it could be one of the most significant pieces of environmental and regulatory legislation in decades.
