Researchers track stormwater recharge into the Ogallala Aquifer
April 7, 2008
An experiment by the Agricultural Research Service of the USDA is
using changes in ground temperatures to measure the flow of water from naturally-occurring lakes filled with stormwater into the groundwater supply to find out how much stormwater is making its way back into the Ogallala Aquifer. The quality of that aquifer is especially important to Nebraska, which relies heavily upon it for irrigation and municipal supplies.
