Western Nebraska hopes for lots of spring runoff from mountains

Western Nebraska, which relies heavily upon irrigation to sustain the agricultural economy, is
looking anxiously towards the Rockies in the hopes that lots of melting snowpack and springtime rain will fill the rivers that lead to irrigation canals and reservoirs. While canal irrigation is considerably less widely used than center-pivot means in Nebraska,
canal gates can manage flows in those systems.
