Need for new water mains becomes obvious in Omaha
January 31, 2008
Omaha has been experiencing an average of
four or five water main breaks a day for the last few months, mainly in areas where the city's water infrastructure is oldest -- in some places, a hundred years old. The breaks are an unfortunate but timely reminder why the city is going through
water-rate increases to help replace the aging infrastructure. Omaha is far from being alone in this matter: The American Society of Civil Engineers says that America's
water infrastructure is
in dire need of repair.
