18 million Southern Californians get fluoridated water for the first time
December 22, 2007
The
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, one of the last remaining major holdouts in the nation, has
begun adding fluoride to its water in order to help protect teeth. Interestingly, some communities in Iowa and Nebraska
actually have too much naturally-occurring fluoride in their water and thus need to
measure their fluoride levels to warn their consumers about the excess. Excessive doses of fluoride
can be hazardous to health.
