Orange County starts recycling its wastewater
December 13, 2007
All water is recycled -- that's the main lesson to be drawn from the
hydrological cycle. But people often resist the thought that the drinking water they take from the tap was once someone else's wastewater. Orange County, California, is making that natural process a little more obvious with its brand-new system for
recharging its natural aquifers with treated wastewater. It's a natural step for an area with limited access to
fresh water, and through
filtration and
disinfection, wastewater can be
recycled much more directly than the conventional natural system allows.
