Winter storms cost electric companies $130 million
April 11, 2007
The winter storms that hit Iowa in February
cost the state's electricity providers $130 million in equipment and labor costs. Many communities lost power when their electric lines went down, and that took many
pump stations and
wastewater treatment plants out of service. Several towns in Iowa and Nebraska have purchased
lift stations with engine backups and
portable lift stations to provide effective insurance against those power outages.
