Google's April Fool's gag and the wastewater connection

Google is known for its April Fool's Day gags, and this year's lineup includes the
Toilet ISP, "a self-installed, ad-supported online service that will be offered entirely free to any consumer with a WiFi-capable PC and a toilet connected to a local municipal sewage system." They're not the first ones to make an Internet joke about household plumbing and municipal sewers: The
Blue Man Group has used the same
sanitary system as a substitute metaphor for the interconnectedness of modern life.
