At least six Iowa communities bypassed wastewater when power went out

Power outages and broken force mains caused at least six Iowa communities to bypass wastewater directly into rivers and streams. The massive power outages that hit the state after an ice storm may cause some communities to think more seriously about getting lift stations with backup power systems and portable lift stations to help them get by in emergencies like this one.
