Great Lakes deal would prohibit shipping water outside region

The eight states and two Canadian provinces bordering the Great Lakes are working on a
compact to prevent the shipment of water from any of the lakes to anywhere outside the region. Seen alongside news of the
Platte River Cooperative Agreement, the
Republican River dispute, and the struggle to
keep Las Vegas from drying up, it's a sign that fresh water is being recognized more than ever as a limited natural resource.
