Iowa regulators increasing scrutiny of rural water supplies

Discoveries of
high bacteria levels in rural water wells are bringing more attention to old wells in Iowa, which may have been installed well before adequate concern was placed upon the siting of potential sources of contaminants like hog lots and septic fields. In addition to testing, better use of disinfection tools like
chlorination tablets and
ultraviolet disinfection systems can help reduce the risk to public health.
