Lawsuit over water concerns near Decorah chicken plant
August 29, 2006
A Winneshiek County farmer is
suing a major chicken producer near Decorah, alleging that animal waste is polluting the groundwater that feeds his drinking well.
The compaction of soil and clay beneath the poultry confinement is supposed to prevent runoff from breaking through the bedrock and reaching the groundwater.
Geomembrane liners can provide much greater insurance against this sort of pollution than just compacted soil.
