Main water supply for Cedar Rapids on "impaired waters" list
May 30, 2006
Cedar Rapids draws its
drinking supply from groundwater near the Cedar River, making it "groundwater under the influence" of the river. High nitrate levels in the Cedar River watershed are causing concern at the Iowa DNR and elsewhere about the quality of water being used to supply Iowa's second-largest city. The high nitrate levels are being blamed on both agricultural and municipal/industrial sources.
