A day in flyover country

We get teased sometimes by people who refer to Iowa and Nebraska as "flyover country". It's home to us. But once in a while, we get a good look at how many planes literally do fly overhead:




Someone left a pipe bomb at a small-town Iowa water tower

A city worker discovered the pipe bomb on Tuesday, and there was no threat called in. For obvious reasons, the incident spooked the neighbors. It's easy to dismiss "terrorism" concerns as something for bigger cities, but Anthon is a town of 565 people -- just slightly over the median size for a town in Iowa.
